Croatian Post, in cooperation with the Croatian blockchain community gathered around the Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Association, presents the Croatian crypto stamp. An incredible combination of philately and modern technology arrives in the 12 th year after the appearance of blockchain technology in its first emanation – the Bitcoin cryptocurrency.

The Croatian crypto stamp is envisioned as the perfect combination of the analogue and the digital. After purchase of the crypto stamp, the part used for paying the postage may be detached, while the digital part remains to be used in the blockchain. Stamps are represented in the blockchain as the so-called unique or non-fungible tokens (NFT) under standard ERC721. Such non-fungible tokens have collectible value, just like classic stamps, which means that philately is faithfully transposed into the digital world. Since such tokens are located on the Ethereum platform, they have the potential to live forever, which adds another dimension to philately – protection from deterioration caused by passage of time.

The web shop in which Croatian Post will enable the purchase of crypto stamps is envisioned as an interactive mosaic that offers the option of paying for the stamp using cryptocurrency. In order for collecting to be faithfully transposed into the digital world as well, crypto stamps will be divided into different categories, emphasizing distinctiveness and exclusivity. Five different means of transport were selected as motifs for the categories…

The crypto stamp project is extremely important for the development of this relatively new industry in Croatia, but also for putting Croatia on the blockchain world map, as well as on the world philately map, since the crypto stamp also marks an anniversary: 180 years since the first stamp, the “Penny Black”, was issued.

Whether digital albums will replace philately albums remains to be seen, but it is already clear that the passion that people have for collecting rare items did not disappear with the emergence of digital technologies.

We see them on the street more often than friends. Everywhere we look, the vans are tirelessly rushing to deliver someone’s goods. Most of our life events involved a van – from moving to a wedding dress delivery. Vans are the most numerous vehicles in the postal fleet. They are most often used to transport larger items and to provide courier services. With climate change in mind, vans are becoming quieter, and more and more often powered by electricity. All over Croatia, from a highway to small, local roads and paths, the yellow postal vans are easily recognizable.

Among the oldest means of transport of postal operators are trains – mail has been transported by train since the very beginning of the railway, especially before the network of countless roads has been built. Specialized wagons were made to meet the demand for postal services. But the train is also a means of transport of the present since in 2020 some operators ordered new postal trains to reconnect long-distance routes. More and more people are labelling train as the best way of transport in the future due to the minimal environmental impact and high speed which are comparable to airplanes.

Large, small, passenger, cargo, war, patrol, fishing boats, ferries and yachts sail the seas, rivers and lakes and until the invention of the railway in the 19th century were the only way to transport people and goods over long distances. Ships, like trains, were one of the first means of postal transport used to connect long distances. Back in the days, mail was transported by passenger ships in coastal areas and overseas. Even today, ships in Croatia and around the world, are used to deliver or send shipments between the mainland and the islands. In addition to being useful, they are often the motifs of stories and poems.

Thanks to speed and convenience, they have turned our world into a global village and made its every corner accessible. In the last century airline travel was a matter of prestige, but today most people can afford a flight above the clouds. Passenger, transport, fire or military, subsonic or supersonic, the aircraft has fulfilled the human aspiration to fly. Modern technology allows us to get people and mail to their destinations by air in the shortest time. On 9th September 1991 Croatian Post established an airline route from Zagreb to Dubrovnik. To commemorate the occasion, the first Croatian postage stamp with the motif of a flying aircraft has been issued.

Today, they are being tested and used to carry mail, and to deliver medicines to recipients in the remote and hard to reach. Packages descending from the sky are not the thing from the future anymore.

Throughout the long history of news transmission, the postman is the constant on which the whole activity rests. From the first messengers on foot in ancient civilizations who, according to Herodotus, could be stopped by " neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night, to the fearless Dubrovnik messenger who had to walk for a month to reach Istanbul, and all the way to a reliable Austro-Hungarian postman with a full mail bag shown on this motif. Every news carrier was adorned with speed, accuracy, and reliability, the same features as postmen today.

The motorization of postal transport in Croatia began in the 1910s, a decade after the first cars arrived in Croatia. Car transport has brought a new quality to postal traffic, especially when it comes to the speed and safety of transport of postal items, but also passengers. The modernization of the postal delivery service was later continued with the introduction of motorcycles alongside bicycles into delivery service. On a moped, like this one from the 1960s, the postman will deliver urgent mail for decades to come.

After being delivered from the World’s Fair in Paris in 1867, the bicycle became extremely popular in Croatia, so it is not surprising that it was mentioned at the end of the 19 th century as a new postal delivery vehicle. The original function of the postal two-wheeler was the delivery of urgent telegrams. This is evidenced by the telegram carrying case hung over the shoulder of this delivery man on a bicycle from the 1930s. The scene of the postman on a bicycle has thus become an everyday occurrence that evokes sympathy even today.

A written message delivered to a messenger on horseback travelled significantly faster than a message carried by a messenger on foot. In cases of great haste, correspondence was marked “Cito, Cito, Citissime” (Latin for Fast, Fast, Fastest). A few centuries ago, a horseman in the service of the post office throughout Europe was called a postilion (from French postillon). He was adorned with an official postal uniform prescribed by special provisions, a specially shaped cap and high sturdy riding boots. A postilion was recognizable to everyone by the postal horn he wore slung over his shoulder and by which he announced his arrival at the destination as needed.

The invention of horse-drawn vehicles made it possible to naturally connect the transport of goods and passengers with the transmission of news. The most important means of postal transport before the advent of the railway was a mail coach, mostly its fast version – a stagecoach. The guard of the mail coach, a postilion, took care of the safety of the passengers, but also the horses. He used a post horn to warn other coaches on the road to let the mail coach pass as well to signal its arrival at the post offices, which were evenly distributed along the main state roads for the needs of postal traffic.

Septembre 9,2021 – V3 RIMAC NEVERA
The Croatian Post presents the third Croatian crypto stamp in cooperation with the companies BitX and NodeFactory. Croatian crypto stamps are conceived as a perfect combination of analogue and digital, and the latter is especially significant because it commemorates the Croatian hypercar of the future – Rimac Nevera.
Postereum 3 can live forever on the Ethereum blockchain and has a collecting value, thus achieving a faithful translation of philately into the digital world.

Rimac Nevera, a fully electric hypercar with 1914 horsepower and a top speed of 412 km/h, was created to provide an unprecedented level of performance. It has four electric motors with a total power of 1914 hp and 2360 Nm of torque and will be the most powerful and fastest accelerating homologated car in production, regardless of the type of powertrain transmission. It is completely designed, developed and manufactured at the company Rimac Automobili in Croatia, and Nevera proudly bears a Croatian name, which truly reflects the extraordinary performance that it can release in the blink of an eye. Nevera is a powerful Mediterranean storm, charged with lightning, which appears with extraordinary speed and strength. The Rimac hypercar shares with this type of storm not only the name, but also its character. Like the natural force after which it is named, it is equally capable of instantly changing its character from a safe and comfortable grand tourer to a high-performance car – Nevera retains its stunning acceleration throughout the cycle of full throttle and reaches 300 km/h from start in just 9.3 seconds. In addition, the car achieves a record fast 8.6 seconds per quarter mile (0-402 meters).

December 20, 2022 – V4 Nikola Tesla
The Croatian Post presents the fourth Croatian crypto stamp in cooperation with the companies BitX and Marrow Labs. Croatian crypto stamps are conceived as a perfect combination of analogue and digital, and this fourth commemorates the inventor Nikola Tesla and his five most important inventions.
Postereum 4 can live forever on the Polygon blockchain and has a collecting value, thus achieving a faithful translation of philately into the digital world.

NIKOLA TESLA (1856. – 1943.)
Nikola Tesla is regarded as one of the greatest scientists and inventors in human history. His experiments and patents in the late 19th and early 20th centuries laid the groundwork for global electrification, and his work in the field of high-frequency currents and wireless transmission of electromagnetic waves enabled the development of radio technology and telecommunications. His studies helped in the discovery of the radar, and he made significant contributions to the advancement of lighting technology.
He was born on 10 July 1856 in Smiljan near Gospić. After his studies in Graz, in 1881 he proceeded to work in the Telegraph Office in Budapest, where he discovered the rotating magnetic field and the operating principle for an electric motor driven by alternating current in 1882. From 1884 he lived in the USA where he briefly worked for T. A. Edison, and in 1887 he founded the Tesla Electric Company and a laboratory in New York where he worked on improving the usage of alternating current. In 1887 and 1888, he applied for patents for the AC motor and distribution system. He applied for a number of patents in the field of high-frequency currents in 1891, and to honor him, one of the devices that produce such currents was named the Tesla transformer. In 1892 he gave a lecture on alternating current and electrification in Zagreb.
Tesla also invented the first teleautomatons – wireless remotely controlled machines. He conducted tests with very high voltages and high-frequency currents in Colorado Springs in 1899, while exploring his novel concept of the World Wireless System, which he unfortunately failed to realize.
Nikola Tesla filed a total of 112 patents with the U.S. Patent Office. In 1917, he was awarded the Edison Medal, the highest distinction given by the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, and in his honor the unit for magnetic induction in the SI system has been called Tesla since 1960. He died on 7 January 1943 in New York.

Tesla turbine

Tier 5

10 000 ex

500 ex Online

The Tesla turbine is a device that is designed to utilize the fact that a fluid (steam, gas, water) can most effectively be used as a source of energy when changes in the speed and direction of its motion are very gradual. The two fluid properties that impact the performance of the Tesla turbine are: adhesion (action of adhering of the liquid and disc surface) and viscosity (resistance of the liquid particles to molecular separation), which interact to transfer the velocity energy of the moving fluid to the rotor and shaft. The rotor consists of a set of metal discs at a small distance from each other. The fluid rapidly enters the periphery of the discs and travels unimpeded along a spiral path between them, exiting the turbine through an opening in the center. The device can also function reversibly as a pump when an external mechanical force is used to propel the rotor.

Tesla coil

Tier 4

8 000 ex

400 ex Online

A Tesla coil or a transformer is a device used to produce high-voltage and high-frequency electricity through the resonance of two or more resonant circuits containing coils and capacitors, with spark gaps acting as switches. The capacitor is charged through a transformer with an iron core and then discharged through the spark gap and the primary winding. With the spark on, damped oscillations of the resonant circuit occur and an alternating magnetic field is generated in the primary coil. As a result of inductive coupling, the magnetic field of the primary coil will induce a voltage in the secondary coil. This voltage is proportional to the turns ratio of the primary and secondary coils. The current oscillations in the secondary coil are also damped and the frequency corresponds to that of the primary turned circuit. This type of oscillator laid the foundation for the development of transmitters and receivers in radio and television technology and later in telecommunications.

Tesla’s wireless signal transmission

Tier 3

6 000 ex

300 ex Online

Tesla patented a signal transmission system using a transmitter and a receiver with antennae earthed on one side and aerial on the other. Tesla also researched the wireless transmission of power which, unfortunately, he never realized. His fundamental idea was to use a transmitter powerful enough to send electromagnetic waves that would spread across the surface to the other end of the globe, from where they would then rebound and connect with the initially transmitted waves, thus generating standing waves. With a suitable receiver, a user anywhere on the planet could obtain standing wave energy and utilize it in a practical way.

Tesla’s remote-controlled boat

Tier 2

4 000 ex

200 ex Online

Tesla’s radio-controlled boat and vehicles is yet another of his major achievements, making him the pioneer of research in telemechanics and telautomatics. In his labs, Tesla researched selective resonance. In 1898 he patented a boat that could be controlled from a distance by radio signal. When a signal of a specific frequency is sent from the transmitter to the ship, the receiver of the resonant frequency responds to the signal and activates the circuit of a particular motor to move the rudder or propeller of the boat in a specific direction. He demonstrated his boat experiment on the Hudson River in New York at Madison Square Garden.

Tesla’s experiment with an egg in a rotating magnetic field

Tier 1

2 000 ex

100 ex Online

A rotating magnetic field is produced by a system of two or more pairs of coils placed apart from each other at a certain angle and supplied with currents out of phase by a certain angle. The coils are typically placed on an iron core to produce a larger magnetic flux. Two sets of coils are driven at 90-degree phasing. The magnetic field produced by individual coils is a vector sum of the magnetic fields of all coils and will rotate at a speed determined by the frequency of the alternating currents and the number of magnetic poles. Tesla’s 1893 copper egg is actually a rotor that rotates as a result of the force generated by electromagnetic induction from within the stator winding. Once the forces are in balance, the egg will rotate around its longitudinal axis and stand on end.

September 7, 2023 – PROFESSOR BALTHAZAR
The Croatian Post presents the fifth Croatian crypto stamp in cooperation with the companies BitX and Marrow Labs. Croatian crypto stamps are envisioned as the perfect combination of the analog and the digital, and the fifth issue is available for purchase at post offices, at epostshop.hr, and in the webshop at kripto.posta.hr/marka/v5, where the Croatian Post allows the purchase of crypto stamps with cryptocurrencies

We all remember and adore him – a busy little man who solves all problems with his knowledge and a complex machine that produces solutions to problems in the form of a drop of magic potion. A simple plot in an artistic animated format that children love so much, and all this with a story that always has a happy ending and a positive message for children – these are the pedagogical and artistic values of this timeless animated series for children and adults.

Professor Balthazar is the main character of this animated series. He is a friendly scientist who solves the problems of his fellow citizens with a help of a complex machine, but the secret behind it lies in his imagination and positivity. Professor Balthazar animated series, consisting of a total of thirty-eight episodes with a running time of around ten minutes, was created at Zagreb Film from 1968 until 1977 and is a unique work of the world-renowned Zagreb School of Animated Film. The co-authors of this work are Zlatko Bourek, Zlatko Grgić, Boris Kolar, Tomica Simović and Ante Zaninović. The renowned French film critic Georges Sadoul first coined the name “Zagreb School of Animated Film” in 1959 at the Cannes Film Festival while describing the work of a group of Zagreb-based authors as “a unique artistic and philosophical style of animated films that originated in Zagreb.”

The series has been immensely popular all over the world for more than 50 years – the Professor Balthazar series carries a powerful message that imagination and the power of positive thinking conquer lies, ideology and manipulation. All this is hidden in a story that, combined with enchanting drawings with magnificent colors, leaves everyone in awe. The universal message that all problems can be solved in a non-violent way and that knowledge, unlike violence, is the true power has a great impact on children, which is in stark contrast to other animated films that solve problems through violence. Balthazar teaches that happiness comes from giving, that every human being is different and that diversity should be embraced and celebrated. His endearing character, who was approximately sixty years old when the series was created, never aged and remained a hallmark of many generations, but also of worldviews where knowledge and kindness, not ideology, have the power to shape reality.
